Lady Phoenix struggle against Vikings in finals; fall short of NCAA Tournament

The Lady Phoenix of Green Bay had their hopes of an NCAA Tournament bid fall just short on Tuesday after falling to Cleveland State 73-59 in the Horizon League Tournament Finals.

The first quarter of the game was back and forth, with neither team having a league more than 4, with that being Cleveland State after a Gabriella Smith layup to make it 8-4. Green Bay would take the lead at the end of the first, 16-15.

That lead would last halfway through the second quarter, as Cleveland State would find their momentum from outside to stretch out the lead of their own. The Vikings would shoot 48.1% from beyond the 3-point line, where the Phoenix struggled, shooting a rough 19.4% on 6-31 shooting.

Cleveland State would then show off their defensive ability against the Phoenix in the third, only allowing Green Bay to score 11 points. Green Bay would try to rally in the fourth, but it was too little to late and fell to the Vikings.

Cleveland State will now go to the NCAA Women's Tournament and find out their seed on Sunday.
