The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans defeated the Winneconne Wolves 8-3 Thursday afternoon in non-conference action that saw both teams battling the severe windy conditions.
The Spartans jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings, taking advantage of Winnconne's starting pitcher Eden Youngbauer who had control issues early on. Benefiting from four walks and a hit batter, L-C scored five runs in the first inning with the aid of only two hits.
Winneconne would close within 7-3 by picking up three runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the Spartans were able to close out the game by picking up an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Josie Dorner.
Savannah Jandrin pitched the first three innings and returned to pitch the sixth inning to pick up the win. Senior Amanda Fameree came in to get the final out on a fly ball to left field to end the game.
Jillina Jorgenson scored twice and knocked in two runs and Rylen Kaminski had two RBIs as well to lead the Spartan attack that finished with seven hits.
Winneconne (14-10) will now play Port Washington next Tuesday in the WIAA tournament.
The #1 Spartans (19-2), who won the NEC championship last week, will now play #8 Fox Valley Lutheran next Tuesday in the WIAA Division II Regional Semi-Fiinal in Luxemburg.
Tuesday’s game will be broadcast on 104.1 WRLU beginning at 4:15 p.m. the pregame. with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network with Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard on the call.
