Despite the fact that no Milwaukee Brewers played in the game, the National League All-Stars were able to defeat the American League 3-2 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on Tuesday night. Snapping a nine-game Major League Baseball All-Star game losing streak, the National League was able to get a two-run home run from Colorado Rockies’ catcher Elias Diaz in the eighth inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead late.
Diaz was named the All-Star Game MVP as he went 1-2 as the designated hitter for the National League.
The American League got on the board first with a solo homer by Yandy Diaz in the second inning. Luis Arraez knocked in J.D. Martinez, who doubled, in the top of the fourth inning with a single to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
The American League was able to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Bo Bichette that scored Salvador Perez.
After Elias Diaz hit the two-run decisive blast in the eighth inning, closer Craig Kimbrall of the Philadelphia Phillies saved the game by striking out slugger Jose Ramirez with two runners on in the bottom of the ninth, giving the National League its first win in the All-Star Game since 2012.
Milwaukee pitchers Corbin Burnes and Devin Williams did not pitch in the game for the National League. Williams was not expected to pitch because of his workload leading up to the game and Burnes was a reserve added late to the roster due to an injury. The Brewers begin the second half of the season on Friday when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the National League Central-leading Reds for a three-game series.
