Vikings climb over Hilltoppers on 105.1 The GOAT

Braden Sitte's big day on both sides of the ball helped the Gibraltar Vikings football team earn a 27-14 victory over Montello Saturday afternoon,

The Vikings opened the game with a scoring drive that concluded with Brady Kita finding Sitte from inside 10 yards out to make it 7-0. The two teams traded miscues that saw the Vikings recover two fumbles thanks to the efforts of Marshall Maltby, Wyatt Bultman, and Giovanni Mercier. The offense could not turn those opportunities into points, ending the first half with a missed field goal and a 7-0 lead.

Kita would find Sitte halfway through the third quarter from inside the five yard line to make it 14-0. Gibraltar would start the fourth quarter by fumbling the ball into the hands of Montello's Ayden Drew, but the Vikings would get the ball right back in a big way. Noah Boelter's pass on the ensuing drive fell right into the hands of Sitte, who took it 60-plus yards to the end zone to make it 21-0 early in the fourth quarter. Kita would find Sitte one last time in the fourth quarter on a 10 yard pass to cap off the scoring for the Vikings.

The Hilltoppers would score their first touchdowns as a standalone team in eight years to cap off the contest thanks to the feet of running back Seth Mehling. He scored his first touchdown on a 24-yard screen pass from Boelter to make it 27-6. Mehling would then escape a bottleneck by the far sideline to find the endzone on an 85-yard touchdown rush.

The Vikings are back in action on Thursday when they face Suring.
