State ranked teams battle at Sevastopol, Reedsville cross country meets

Area cross country teams traveled in two different directions on Thursday for a pair of invitationals featuring top flight teams.

 

The Sevastopol Pioneers cross country team welcomed tough competition and held their own in their home Pioneer Invite at Cherry Hills Golf Course in Sturgeon Bay on Thursday. The seventh state-ranked Pioneers finished fifth out of six teams with 106 points with Green Bay Preble (28), Freedom (44), Two Rivers (92), and Luxemburg-Casco (99) finishing ahead of them. Preble is ranked 20th in Division 1 and Freedom is ranked seventh in Division 2. Luxemburg-Casco's Kyan Lynts (18:17) and Claire DuChateau (20:30)  were the top local finishers. The Southern Door boys and the Kewaunee girls were the top local teams at the Panther Invite hosted by Reedsville. Kewaunee's Christopher Cullen (16:49) and Southern Door's Ben Grota (16:57) each broke the 17-minute barrier on the 5K course to pace their respective teams. Hannah Miller of Kewaunee won the race with a time of 19:01 while Southern Door's Emma Bousley finished with a time of 20:42 to come in fifth place.
