The Central Division Champion Milwaukee Brewers are one game from elimination in the Wild Card round of the Major League Baseball playoffs after falling 6-3 to the Arizona Diamondbacks in game one of the three-game series at American Family Field on Tuesday night.
Brewer starter Corbin Burnes struggled giving up three home runs in four innings of pitching as Milwaukee could not hold on to an early 3-0 lead.
An RBI single in the first inning by Carlos Santana scored Christian Yelich to give the Brewers the lead and Tyrone Taylor crushed a two-run homer down the left field line in the second inning to get things off to a good start. It was all Arizona after that, as the Brewers squandered several scoring opportunities all night long stranding 11 runners on base.
Arizona was led in hitting by Joey Carrol who had two hits including a home run, and Christian Walker had three hits and two RBIs including a big double in the ninth inning off Brewer closer Devin Williams to extend the Diamondback lead to 6-3.
The Brewers and Diamondbacks will play game two Wednesday night as Milwaukee looks to starve off elimination and force a game three on Thursday. Freddy Peralta will get the call on the mound with Zac Gallen pitching for Arizona. First pitch is set for 6:08 p.m.
