First half sleepwalk turns into nightmare for Packers

Despite having an extra week to prepare and one of their big offensive stars back in the fold, the Green Bay Packers saw their record drop to 2-4 after losing to the Denver Broncos 19-17 Sunday evening.

The Packers only had 100 yards in the first half with three punts and a missed field goal to their credit. The only saving grace was the Packers' defense, which limited the Broncos to three field goals to send the two teams into the locker room, with Denver only holding a nine-point lead.

The Packers finally scored one on their first drive of the second half when Anders Carlson made good on his earlier sin and drilled a 29-yard field goal. The offense would pick up its pace in the third quarter with the Broncos' Russell Wilson and the Packers' Jordan Love throwing touchdown passes to make it a 16-10 game at the end of three quarters.

The Packers would take a slim 17-16 lead when a pass deflected off the hands of Romeo Doubs somehow found its way to Jayden Reed in the endzone. The defense would bend until the Broncos made a 52-yard field goal to give them a 19-17 advantage, but the Packers had over three minutes to work with. It would not mean much as Love would throw into double coverage for a long interception for the second week in a row.

The Packers will have to hope its home energy will not give way to skol chants as they return to Lambeau Field next Sunday to face the Minnesota Vikings for a noon start.
