Green Bay survives scare from St. Norbert

For the second year in a row, St. Norbert almost grabbed an exhibition upset, only to be thwarted by Green Bay in the closing minutes by a 65-63 margin.

The Green Knights showed the importance of experience early in the contest, weathering the athleticism of the new-look Phoenix while building a lead that would grow to as high as ten points before settling on five points.

A Phoenix run in the middle of the half would give them a lead they would not give up, but they still needed a stroke of luck. Timely fouls and missed free throws gave the Green Knights a chance at a miracle, but a three-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out, preserving the win for the Phoenix.

The close Phoenix victory prevented both teams from emptying the bench to get their players some action, including former Gibraltar product Will Friedenfels.

Monday's game was the only exhibition on the calendar for the Phoenix, as they will open the regular season at Iowa State next Monday. The Green Knights will open their regular season next Wednesday with a home game against Ripon.
