Spartans girls look for first win vs. Red Raiders

The Luxemburg-Casco girls' basketball team will go for their first win in two tries on Monday night when they travel to Pulaski to take on the Red Raiders.

The Beth Budnik era began with Luxemburg-Casco falling to Marinette 43-35. The two teams kept things close in the first half, with the visiting Marines only holding an 18-16 at the break. Bryana Torkko was a thorn for the Spartans, scoring all eight of her points in the first half and joining Riley Kieffer and Chloe Seymour with the team lead. Brianna Bray and Erin Cherovsky carried the load for the Spartans in the first half, scoring seven points. The Marines would outscore the Spartans 25-19 in the second half thanks to six points from Madison Kuoazk, all of which came after the break. Cherovsky would end her night with 14 points as Bray added 13 in the loss for the Spartans.

The Red Raiders are starting their campaign slowly, losing three games in the season's opening two weeks. After losing by double figures to West De Pere, they dropped matchups to Seymour and New London by a combined seven points. Olivia Spranger is leading the Red Raiders attack with 11.5 points per game.

Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.

In other girls' basketball action, Algoma continues its murderer's row of season-opening games when it visits Mishicot for a 7:15 p.m.
