Borseth's 800th win finishes Phoenix sweep of UIC

A celebratory video for Green Bay women's basketball coach Kevin Borseth was just icing on the cake for the two Phoenix teams that both beat UIC this week.

The fun started on Tuesday in Chicago when the Phoenix men grinded out a 70-68 win against the Flames. The Phoenix whittled away at a six-point halftime deficit throughout the second half by driving the ball inside against the Flames, which was a departure from their game against Western Illinois on Saturday when they shot 33 three-pointers, making only seven of them. Noah Reynolds led the team with 31 points, but it was a putback by Elijah Jones with less than a second remaining that won the game for the Phoenix. Jones scored 10 points while David Jones, Jr. added 14 points in the win.

The Phoenix women overcame a slow start and a poor night from behind the arc to beat the Flames 64-56. For awhile, it looked like UIC might just win their first game ever in Green Bay, but a late run by the Phoenix in the second quarter gave the team momentum to outscore the Flames 22-17 in the third quarter. They would extend the lead into double figures in the fourth quarter before the Flames were able to whittle away at the deficit late. Natalie McNeal scored a career-high in points with 19 and grabbed five rebounds, while Jasmine Kondrakiewicz contributed 14 points and four rebounds. The win was Borseth's 800th victory in his college coaching career. Of those 800 wins, 488 have come at Green Bay with other victories coming from stints at Michigan Tech and Michigan.
