Wrestling round-up: Southern Door wins inaugural Eagles Girls Scramble

A little history was made on Friday night as many of the area's wrestlers hit the mats on Friday with more action slated for Saturday.

The Southern Door hosted and won their first-ever Eagles Girls Scramble, scoring 120 points and beating 10 other teams. The four-girl round-robin tournament saw Nora LeFevre win the 114 pound weight class for the Eagles while Delaney Wilke (107), Sydney Turner (138), Hailey Veeser (145), and Kailyn Neville (185) take second place with 3-1 records. The boys will head to Preble on Saturday for a tournament. Kaukauna, Neenah, Seymour, Chilton, Freedom, Lomira, Mishicot, Ozaukee, Sheboygan South, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, Waupaca, Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Crivitz, and Menomonee Indian are all scheduled to be there when the action starts at 9:30 a.m.

Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers won six of their eight matches on Friday at the inaugural Eagles Girls Scramble hosted by Southern Door. The top finisher was 185-pounder Kiley Georgel, who captured first place with four pins, all of which occurred before the halfway point of the third period. Evelyn Lange split her matches at 138 pounds.

The Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wrestling team only had one wrestler compete in Friday's Eagle Girls Scramble, but she was as good as gold. Tiani Lemieux won the 145-pound weight class with a perfect 4-0 record with four falls. The only match that last longer than 40 seconds was her match against fellow state qualifier and Door County resident Hailey Veeser of Southern Door.

No score was reported from Kewaunee's dual against Tri-County, but they did lose to Wrightstown 64-12, with Kemper Robinson and Mitchell Boeder picking up their only points. The Storm will have no time for rest as they head to Oostburg on Saturday for an invitational featuring Clinton, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Green Lake/Princeton, Hustisford, Lake Country Lutheran, Martin Luther, Milwaukee Bradley Technical, Milwaukee School Of Languages, New Holstein, North Fond du Lac, Oostburg, St. John's Northwestern Academies, Sussex Hamilton and Xavier. The first matches are set to begin at 8 a.m.
