Phoenix men race past Jaguars

The Green Bay Phoenix overcame a slow start to win their 15th game of the season, beating IUPUI 79-56.

The Phoenix defense couldn't solve the Jaguars offense early on, letting the visitors jump to a 34-30 advantage. The Phoenix ended the half on a 6-0 run and started the second frame on a 17-6 to begin the eventual rout. Reigning Freshman of the Week David Douglas Jr. led the Phoenix with 20 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Noah Reynolds scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half, while Rich Bhyre poured in 13 points, and Clarence Cummings III added 10 points in the win.

Thursday's win marked the first time the Phoenix hit double-digit victories for the first time since before the pandemic and the crowd nearly hit 5,500, making it the biggest crowd in almost 10 years. A big reason why was the 3,500 students that came for Education Day. Some of those students came from Algoma, which had themselves a memorable day ahead of a needed break for the Phoenix.
