Phoenix women and men get much needed road sweep

The Green Bay Phoenix men earned a first-round bye for the upcoming Horizon League Tournament with a 69-61 win over Cleveland State Tuesday. The women took care of business downing the Fort Wayne Mastodons 70-61.

Leading by more than 20 points in the game, the Lady Phoenix took a 37 to 19 lead into halftime, only to see Fort Wayne rally to cut the lead to four points in the second half.

The Lady Phoenix hung on thanks to four players scoring in double figures.  Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, Natalie McNeal, and Callie Genke all scored 14 points, while Luxemburg-Casco alumnus Cassie Schiltz added 10 more, including two key three-pointers.

The Phoenix used a balanced attack to down the Vikings in the men's game.  Marcus Hall led Green Bay with 12 points, while Foster Wonders and Will Eames knocked down 11.  Elijah Jones added ten points and 15 rebounds for the Phoenix.

Taking a 33-26 lead into halftime, the Phoenix men withstood a second-half comeback by Cleveland State to improve their record to 18-12 overall and clinch a fourth-seed in the Horizon League Conference Tournament starting on March 7th.
