Green Bay basketball teams enter tournament week on disappointing note

A day-night sweep at the hands of their in-state rival was not what the Green Bay basketball programs had in mind ahead of co-hosting the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.

The Phoenix women were outscored 16-9 in the third quarter and could not recover in a 65-61 loss to Milwaukee Saturday afternoon. Three Phoenix players finished in double figures, led by Jenna Guyer's 14 points. The loss sent them to the number two seed in the Horizon League.

The Phoenix men suffered a nearly five-minute scoring drought late in the second half that saw a two-point halftime lead turn into a 90-69 drubbing at the hands of Milwaukee.  David Douglas Jr. and Preston Ruedinger each finished with 15 points in the loss that sank the Phoenix to the third seed in the tournament.

The opponents still need to be determined, but the Phoenix women will open Thursday's doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.
