Teams open track season on the road

Some of the area's track teams got their first taste of competition on Thursday at a pair of track of meets held at local colleges.

Just a couple of male athletes for Gibraltar made the long trip to UW-Oshkosh on Thursday for the opening track meet of the season. Sean Neal posted the best times among his teammates in the 200m and 60m dashes, while Kayin Jackson led the way in the long jump and Isaac Nelson did the same in the shot put.

Southern Door took 18th place out 42 teams at Thursday's Boys Small School Invite hosted by UW-Oshkosh. Alaric Urban posted the best finish with a second place finish in the triple jump, though Zach Lynch, Lauden Berg, and Ben Grota also posted Top Five finishes on the day.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers track team posted five event wins at the Berlin Invite hosted at Ripon College on Thursday. On the girls side, Nida Zukauskaite cleaned up with event wins in the 60m hurdles and high jump. Ella Tarkowski won the 60m dash and Cady Carlson won the 200m. For the boys, Xavier Jandrin won the pole vault.

The Sevastopol track team opened their 2024 campaign at the Berlin Indoor Invite hosted at Ripon College on Thursday. For the boys, Jarius Dadam was the top-place winner, coming in third place in the pole vault. The girls were led by Caitlyn Fellner's fourth-place finish in the 200m.

The Algoma track team's small numbers at Thursday's meet at UW-Oshkosh yielded big results, scoring 20 points and a 25th-place finish. Aiden Moen recovered from a seventh-place finish in the preliminaries to take third in the 60m hurdles. The Kirchman boys also helped pick up points, with Alex taking fifth in the 3200m and John finishing behind teammate Mason Melohn in the shot put.
