Errors sink Wolves vs. Hornets on baseball diamond

The Algoma Wolves' baseball team could not overcome five errors in its 10-3 opening-day loss to the Green Bay Preble Hornets on Thursday at Capital Credit Union Park.

The Hornets were leading 4-0 before the Wolves scored twice in the third inning to a pair of RBI groundouts by Braeden Leist and Chase Romdenne. After the Hornets answered with a tally in the bottom half of the third inning, the Wolves got that run back in the fifth when Leist doubled home Jack Cole. The Wolves' comeback hopes were shelved in the sixth inning when the Hornets scored five runs.

Charlie Prokash took the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) across 3 1/3 innings in relief of Carson Leist, who gave up four runs (one earned). Prokash did strike out seven in his appearance. Braeden Leist, Aiden Jorns, and Jack Cole recorded the only hits, with Leist (two RBI) and Romdenne (one RBI) driving in runs.
