Track Round-Up: Southern Door sweeps Door County Classic

The Southern Door track teams posted the top scores in Monday's Door County Classic hosted at Sevastopol.

The Eagles boys won 11 events and the girls captured the top spot in five events in their respective wins. For the boys, Zack Lynch (100m and 200m), Mason Motquin (400m), Ben Grota (800m, 3200m, 1600m), Damontrae Meeks (300m hurdles), Grant Pieschek (pole vault) and Alaric Urban (triple jump and long jump) winning their events. Frankie Nellis matched Urban's feat by winning the same two events on the girls' side. Danica Neville (pole vault), and Elise Jackson (100m hurdles) also won their events.

The Sturgeon Bay track teams performed well at Monday's Door County Classic but played second fiddle to Southern Door in both the boy's and girls' divisions. For the boys', Chase Hasenjager (400m), Ozzie Langfeldt (110m hurdles), Braden Evers (shot put), and Gannon Evers (discus) captured the top spot in their respective events. The Clippers girls were paced by first-place performances by Julia Kurek (3200m, 1600m), Ella Tarkowski (100m), Tiviana Andropolis (200m), Cady Carlson (400m), Jade Tomberlin (800m), and Gabriella Luett (discus).

The Gibraltar Vikings track teams posted plenty of top-three performances, but only two leaped to the top of the podium at Monday's Door County Classic. Braden Sitte won the event with a personal best high jump of six feet. He also finished runner-up in the 100m, 200m, and long jump. McKailey Reisen raced to a win in the 100m hurdles and leaped to the top spot in the high jump.

The Sevastopol track team had hosting duties for this year's Door County Classic Track Meet, boasting one event champion along the way. Cassie Rankin posted a new personal record of 29 feet 5 inches in the shot put to win the event. The 4x400m relay team of Danica Werkheiser, Kylee Duessler, Caitlyn Hasenjager, and Caitlyn Fellner was the only other event win for the Pioneers for the boys and the girls, though they did post a total of 11 top-3 performances to boost their point totals in the meet.

NOTE:  There was a three-way tie for the top boys award. Ben Grota of Southern Door, Branden Sitte of Gibraltar and Southern Door's Aleric Urban all had 18 points.
