Luxemburg-Casco hosts Spartan Track Invitational Thursday

The Luxemburg-Casco track team will have hosting duties on Thursday when they welcome several teams for the Spartan Invitational.

Denmark, Oostburg, Sevastopol, Southern Door, and Two Rivers will also be participating in the meet when it begins at 4 p.m.

Storms that rolled through the area on Tuesday prevented the Spartans from participating in their scheduled track meet.

The Southern Door track teams posted the top scores in Monday's Door County Classic hosted at Sevastopol. The Eagles boys won 11 events, and the girls captured the top spot in five events, respectively, in their wins. For the boys, Zack Lynch (100m and 200m), Mason Motquin (400m), Ben Grota (800m, 3200m, 1600m), Damontrae Meeks (300m hurdles), Grant Pieschek (pole vault) and Alaric Urban (triple jump and long jump) winning their events. Frankie Nellis matched Urban's feat by winning the same two events on the girls' side. Danica Neville (pole vault), and Elise Jackson (100m hurdles) also won their events.

The Sevastopol track team had hosting duties for this year's Door County Classic Track Meet, boasting one event champion along the way. Cassie Rankin posted a new personal record of 29 feet 5 inches in the shot put to win the event. The 4x400m relay team of Danica Werkheiser, Kylee Duessler, Caitlyn Hasenjager, and Caitlyn Fellner was the only other event win for the Pioneers for the boys and the girls. However, they did post a total of 11 top-3 performances to boost their point totals in the meet.

In other track action, Kewaunee and Algoma will head to Oconto Falls for a track meet beginning at 4 p.m. Coleman, Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, Hilbert, Laona-Wabeno, Lena, Marinette, Oconto, and Seymour also appearing.

In their pentangular on Tuesday they hosted, the Storm girls nipped Peshtigo 113-111 while the boys held a much more comfortable advantage over the Bulldogs 173-127.  Topping the leaderboard for the boys were Owen Carlson (100m, 200m), Christopher Cullen (800m, 1600m), James Joski (3200m), Braxton Riha (Shot Put), Kemper Robinson (Discus), Maddix Mueller (High Jump, Triple jump), and DJ Echos (Long Jump). For the girls, it was Hannah Miller (400m, 800m), Katie Meier (1600m), Braelyn Witcpalek (300m high hurdles), Chyanne Robinson (Discus), Wren Kunesh (Pole Vault), and Gabby Stangel (Triple Jump) earning first place finishes.

Faith Gerdmann captured the lone win for the Algoma Track Team at the Kewaunee Pent on Tuesday. The race was delayed for over an hour due to storms in the area. Gerdmann cracked 33 feet for first place in the shot put while she threw over 96 feet in the discus to take second place. Brennan Buckman was the top-performing boy place-wise in the meet, coming in second place in the pole vault. Several members posted personal and season bests in the meet, including Mason Melohn (shot put), Isaac Yunk (discus), Aiden Moen (300m hurdles), Zoey Stuth (100m hurdles), and Emily Reif (300m hurdles) to come in the top three.
