Bscherer To See Red???

The Sports Page featured Wisconsin Badger offensive tackle Jake Bscherer. The Sturgeon Bay High School graduate announced last night that he will likely take advantage of a red shirt and save himself a year of eligibility. Bscherer will be a junior in school this season, but if he does not play in any of the games he will still have two years of eligibility remaining. The red shirt would still allow him to be on scholarship. He would practice, prepare and travel with the team. If one of the two starting offensive tackles were injured, the Sturgeon bay grad would likely be asked to fill in. That would be the only negative that could come from electing to take his red shirt this season.
Bscherer weighs approximately 295 pounds and his new offensive line coach would like to see him bulk up to 315 pounds. The junior said he couldn’t believe how difficult it is to gain weight. The added weight would allow the offensive lineman to be comparative in weight with some of the other successful tackles that have gone before him.
The Wisconsin Badgers will begin their off season weight training program on Monday. He will return to Madison on Sunday to prepare for the strenuous workout schedule.
The Sturgeon Bay native said it is great to be home and still loves to come back and visit with friends and family.

Southern Door and Sevastopol will continue to march for a state championship Friday at Goodman Diamond in Madison. Southern Door will play New Berlin Eisenhower at 6:00 p.m. on 104.1 FM WRLU. Eagles head coach Pat Delcore will join us on the Renard's Cheese Pre-Game Show starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Eagles have been tremendous on defense but a little dormant at the plate. Courtney Wautier notched 13 strikeouts in the sectional final against Oconto Falls and Southern door may need that kind of a performance again if they wish to play Saturday for a state title.
the Eagles last won state championships in 1992 and 1994. Coach Pate Delcore would love to add 2008 to the list of title winners.  You will hear more from Delcore in our pre-game coverage on 104.1 FM WRLU starting at 5:30 p.m.

WIAA Division 3 sectional semi-final baseball marked the end of the season for Algoma yesterday. In Horicon, the Wolves cold only garner one hit against Fond du Lac Springs senior pitcher Jason Schmitz. The 5-0 final was the end of an amazing season for Algoma.
Algoma senior Ryan Bouche managed the only hit in the game in the sixth inning. Algoma received a solid pitching effort from the Packerland Conference player of the year Jake LeBotte. He allowed six hits, struck out 10 and allowed just one earned run. The Wolves committed five errors. Algoma finished the season with 17 wins.

In Burlington, Gibraltar met a similar fate in WIAA Division 4 sectional semi-final baseball. The Vikings had a 3-1 lead early, but couldn't hold on and lost 7-4 to Green Lake.
Marshall Larsen accounted for three of the teams RBI's with a bases clearing triple in the second inning. Sam Ausloos was charged with the loss for Gibraltar. He did help his own cause at the plate and finished with two of the team's four hits. Green Lake scored three runs in the seventh inning to move on to the sectional finals.
