Door County Baseball League Today
By Jocko Rader
June 19, 2008

No Friday games this week. Top hitters from last week: Brad Stegmann 3, Woody Schartner 3, Jesse Miller 3, Kurt Ray 3, Paul Nelson 4, Justin Hartel 4, Matt Foss 4, Jason Annis 4, Joe Hoffman 3. Home run hitters: Joe Hoffman, Alex Higgenbotom, Paul Nelson, Eric Hartel, Matt Foss, Matt Ash, Len Atkins, Craig Gunnlaugsson, Woody Schartner, Eric Dejardine, Cody Bauer, and Travis Leroy.
Games this week: Washington Island at Institute. That will be a big game for both clubs The Cubs aredoing very well without Corey Fuller, their outstanding shortstop and the Islanders coming in with their big bats and will be tough to hold off. I will pick theIslanders to win. I know the Cubs romped Jacksonport last week. Baileys Harbor at Egg Harbor. Quite a rivalry here. Both teams need a win and only one can do it. Egg Harbor gave Kolberg a battle Sunday and Baileys gave the Mets all they could handle. Pick Egg Harbor because
its there. West Jacksonport at Sister Bay. Not a happy week in the Tanck house. Ericksons crew still without a win and I doubt if it will be this week as Jacksonport cannot afford another losS this early in the season. I pick the Ports. Maplewood at Kolberg, the Mets having been playing good ball of late and two of their youngest players had five hits last week. Stegmann and Thayse. Kolberg had a tough time with Egg Harbor and now comes big time rival Maplewood. This is like the Bears and Packers. No love here during playing time. After the game its different however. Many of the players are from southern Door. I pick the braves to go 6 and 0. Sorry Jeff.

June 18, 2008

The Sturgeon Bay American Legion baseball team got off to a running start in conference play last night against Wrightstown. The comforts of playing at home and a tremendous offensive outing led to a 10-2 win. Troy Jorgenson led the Bays with a 4x4 day at the plate. Michael Blizel finished with a homerun and a double and Jordan Olson had a double and two singles.
An eight-run lead after two innings was more than enough for the Bays. Blizel was the winning pitcher. The Bays will play Kewaunee County tomorrow night. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:15 PM at Memorial Field in Sturgeon Bay.

Door County Baseball Report
By Jocko Rader DoorCountyDailyNews.com
June 14, 2008

Institute won over Baileys Harbor 2 to 1 on Friday night. West Jacksonport over Egg Harbor 12 to 0. Other games rained out will be played on August 17th, which is the end of season. If we have another rain out before the 4th of July then the games from last week will be played on the fourth of July. Hitting stars this week. Dannny Hanson with 2 home runs for the Ports. Three hits by Woody Schartner, two by Ryan Johnson, Stewart Larsen, Ryan Tanck, and two from Scott Babcock. Friday night we had Maplewood at Baileys Harbor; the Mets needed a win as did the A's. Pick will be the Mets in a close one. Institute at West Jacksonport. The Cubs are 3 and 2 and the Ports are 4 and1. To much power and hitting for the Cub pitchers I think, my pick will be the Ports. Egg Harbor at Kolberg. Let’s see who’s got the biggest sticks. I think Bretl will have the upper hand here and the Braves will take care of the opponent. Sister Bay goes to the Island and is looking for win number one. They lost a tough one two weeks ago to the Baileys Harbor team. The Islanders are awful tough at home and have too much hitting for the A’s to handle I believe. They will have to have an error free game and that is hard to do for any team. My pick has to be the Islanders, but it will be a close one. Well, that’s it for this week. Jocko Rader reporting for Door County Daily News .com.
