There has never been a graduating class from Algoma High School as decorated as the one that will look to add another state championship to the school’s gymnasium walls this weekend at the Resch Center. Kennedy Blahnik, Meg Ryan, Leah Blazkovec and Jade Ledocq will be a part of a Wolves Basketball program that is making its third trip to state in four years.
They have already made history by just making it to the state tournament. If they can bring the WIAA Division 4 state championship trophy back to the “Golden Shores” of Algoma, Wisconsin, the graduating class of 2014 will be nearly impossible for any class to catch.
Kennedy Blahnik has already claimed six state championships in track and field in the shot put and discus. She is expected to dominate the state field again this spring and add two more gold medals as long as her arm does not fall off.
Meg Ryan helped the school add a state softball championship last spring from the catcher position. As field general, Ryan played as big of a role on the team as anyone. The Wolves appear poised to make another deep tournament run in softball when the season rolls around in a few weeks.
All four have decided on continuing their education in the fall with Blahnik and Ryan continuing their athletic careers too. UW Madison and Ripon are getting a pair of winners in Blahnik and Ryan respectively. Ripon is trying to convince Blazkovec to play basketball along with her classmate. Leah has already committed to Ripon but has not decided on playing college basketball. Ledocq will be attending Northern Michigan University with her major undecided.
Here is a listen to Leah and Jade in the post-game show following the sectional championship in Waupaca Saturday night.
