On April 20 the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates were involved in a brawl that led to benches clearing, punches being thrown and a few suspensions handed out.
Tuesday will be the first meeting since that day when Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole shared a few choice words with Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez. The resulting scrap led to suspensions for Gomez, Martin Maldonado and Pirates Travis Snider and Russell Martin.
Gomez has yet to hear back on his appeal and should be in the next couple days whether any or all three games will be served for a suspension.
Cole was not suspended, and he will be starting game one of the three game series against Marco Estrada who started against Cole the last time.
Saturday night, the Brewers lost Aramis Ramirez to a hamstring injury and will likely be placed on the disabled list in the next few days.
Sunday, Gomez was hit in the hand while batting and was unable to grip the bat in his second and third at-bats. Gomez is in danger of missing the series either for hand or suspension.
Good news however, Ryan Braun is scheduled to be back into the lineup for game one. Braun has been out since April 26 with rib injury.
Game two of the series will be Wily Peralta versus left-hander Francisco Liriano. The finale will be Yovani Gallardo against Wandy Rodriguez. Milwaukee (24-14) holds a 5 ½ game lead in the NL Central entering Tuesday.
