Mike Fiers fired seven solid innings for his fourth consecutive win since joining the rotation helping the Milwaukee Brewers avoid a three game sweep in a 4-3 win.
Fiers gave up two runs on two hits while striking out seven. It was his second consecutive outing with only allowing two hits.
Jeremy Jeffress pitched a scoreless eighth and Francisco picked up his Major League leading 39th save despite giving up a solo home run in the ninth.
Brewers offense put up a high hit total, but only managed four runs. Armais Ramirez had three hits to lead the team. Jonathan Lucroy, Ryan Braun, Scooter Gennett and Gerardo Parra each recorded two hits.
With the win and loss by the St. Louis Cardinals, the lead in the NL-Central is back to 1 1/2 games.
Up next for Milwaukee is a long three city road trip starting in San Diego against the Padres. Kyle Lohse will return after missing his last start with an ankle injury. Padres will counter with Eric Stults. First pitch is at 9:10.
