The ninth inning will look a whole lot different for the Milwaukee Brewers now that manager Ron Roenicke had demoted John Axford and promoted Francisco Rodriguez. The move was announced before last night's game against the Cardinals.
K-Rod got a save chance just hours later with Milwaukee holding a 3-2 lead over St. Louis. Rodriguez held up in the ninth inning and saved his second game of the year as a Brewer and the 293rd of his career.
Rickie Weeks got the Brewers their lead in the fourth inning when he dented the scoreboard in centerfield with a sky scraping solo home run. The blast set starter Randy Wolf up to win his first game in 2 1/2 months.
The Brewers evened the three game series against their National League Central rivals with the victory. Milwaukee is now eight games back of the Reds in the division, with the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline exactly two weeks away.
