The Green Bay Blizzard have re-signed Quarterback Donovan Porterie for the 2013 season. The team has also signed two new offensive linemen in Tyler Hendrickson and Tyler Kuehl.
Porterie (6'4,220) who led the Blizzard to the United Conference Championship game in 2012, will begin his second season with the Blizzard. Porterie threw for 1,990 yards, 44 touchdowns and 18 interceptions in his first year with the Blizzard. Under Porterie's guidance the Blizzard finished third in the IFL in points scored (56.2).
"Donovan is a talented quarterback and a very good team leader", said Blizzard Head Coach Robert Fuller. "Over the last two years we've (Fairbanks and Green Bay) won 22 games with him leading our football team and it is important to have that type of leadership and experience on your roster. With Donovan and Spencer Ohm in camp competing for the starting job we are pretty excited about the potential at that position."
2013 will be Porterie's third season in the IFL. In 2011, Porterie played for the Fairbanks Grizzlies where he led the team to an 11-3 record while throwing 30 touchdowns to just six interceptions. Porterie graduated from the University of New Mexico where he was a four-time team captain.
The Blizzard have also signed OL Tyler Hendrickson. Hendrickson (6'8,310) played his collegiate career at the University of Concordia - St. Paul. As a 45 game starter for the Golden Bears Hendrickson was a two-time All-American, two-time Gene Upshaw Award Finalist, and was a 2011 team captain. Hendrickson signed with the Chicago Bears following his collegiate career. Hendrickson joins teammate QB Spencer Ohm as graduates of the University of Concorda-St. Paul.
"Tyler is a pretty special talent and the type of blue collar football player we want on our team. Tyler has the tools necessary to be a dominate football player in the IFL and we fully expect him to be back on an NFL roster in 2013", said Head Coach Robert Fuller.
