The 99th Rose Bowl Game was expected to be a blow out with the sixth ranked Stanford Cardinal expected to take it to the unranked Wisconsin Badgers. To UW's credit the game was extremely close and could have swung either way in the fourth quarter.
Stanford held on 20-14 in a slugfest in a chilly Pasadena, California. In the closing minutes, Wisconsin was driving near midfield when quarterback Curt Phillips threw behind tight end Jacob Pedersen, and a Stanford defender picked off the pass sealing the victory.
Had the Badgers marched down the field and scored a touchdown, UW would have upset the Pac-12 champs.
Montee Ball rushed for 100 yards and his FBS-record 83rd touchdown, but Wisconsin managed only 82 yards in their scoreless second half.
