
The Brewers formally announced their one-year pact with veteran reliever Mike Gonzalez yesterday. The lefty agreed to a deal that will pay him $2.25 million plus incentives. At 34 years old, Gonzalez has 10 years of Major League experience. He will wear uniform No. 51.Reliever Jim Henderson switched to No. 29 for the veteran.
Gonzalez is the Brewers' third significant bullpen pickup in about a month, joining fellow former Nationals lefty Tom Gorzelanny (free agency) and former Rays right-hander Burke Badenhop. With incumbent closer John Axford, right-handers Henderson and Brandon Kintzler, the Brewers have the makings of a seven-man relief corps.
