
Saturday, Southern Door wrestling finished eighth out of 25 teams wrestling at the Merrill Blue Jay Invitational. The Eagles only had eight wrestlers compete and still managed to finish in the top third of schools. Here is a complete list of Eagles wrestlers and how they fared Saturday in Merrill:
138 - Jacob Englebert finished 1st with a 7-0 decision over Garrett Schmelling of Merrill. Jacob looked very solid coming in as a #5 seed he beat the 2nd, 3rd and 5th place finishers.
152 - Colin Schubert finished in 2nd losing by technical fall 20-5 to Jared Scharenbrock of Sun Prairie. Jared is undefeated on the season and ranked #1 in Division 1. Colin had his chances for some near fall and did score some take downs but couldn't stop Jared's hand control offense.
126 - Hunter Pawelski finished in 3rd place with a 10-8 decision over Morgan Krueger of Crandon. Hunter wrestled well and looked technically better than he has been all season.
160 - Nolan Wagner finished in 5th place with a 9-4 decision over Kevin Beckman of Ozaukee. Nolan wrestled well but mistakenly looked at the score wrong in his loss which cost him a close match.
120 - Triston Scoville finished in 5th place with a pin in 2:25 over Jesse Sprauge of Wittenberg Birnamwood. Triston had another good day getting two pins and a technical fall.
285 - Mitchell Overbeck finished in 6th place losing by pin in 4:36 to Gabe Nelles of Merril.
145 - Michael Letter finished in 22nd place losing in a 4-2 decision to Mason Ripp of Waunakee.
220 - Ethan Werkheiser finished in 15th place with a pin in 1:02 over Quentin Seger of Maple Northwestern.
