A 16 team varsity wrestling tournament is not an easy thing to throw together but Clippers coach Paul Shefchik and his amazing group of assistant coaches did a fantastic job Saturday organizing a well run event. The Clippers had some tremendous individual efforts from wrestlers like Lucas Stephenson, Colt Knutson and Mike Wiegand.
Southern Door also wrestled extremely well. Eagles coach Jerry Englebert said six individuals impressed.
113 - Triston Scoville finished in 4th place. Triston came in as a 5th seed and upset Lars Schrader of Little Chute 8-6 in overtime in his quarterfinal match. Trailing 6-2 with less than 10 seconds left Triston reversed Lars and gained 2 near fall to send the match into overtime where he secured the winning takedown. Englebert said, "It was a great match and a real confidence booster for Triston." Triston then lost to the eventual champion in the semis and a tough 5-0 third place match.
120 - Hunter Pawelski finished 1st. Hunter was by far the best record and best wrestler in his bracket. He snapped back from a tough loss on Thursday with very decisive wins.
138 - Jacob Englebert finished 1st with two pins and a major decision. Jacob is wrestling very well right now with a lot of intensity.
145 - Colin Schubert finished 1st and is continuing to dominate matches.
152 - Nolan Wagner finished 3rd. Nolan lost a tough match 3-2 in the semifinals before coming back with a pin to take 3rd.
285 - Mitchell Overbeck finished 3rd with a win over Kris Smith of Two Rivers. Mitchell lost by pin to Smith last week so it was nice to even things up heading into regionals.
