Gibraltar, Oconto and NEW Lutheran all won their first round games in the WIAA regional tournament Tuesday night. Sevastopol was the only Packerland Conference team to lose their tournament opener. The Pioneers fell to Suring 59-35.
Gibraltar put their offensive skills on display against Lake Country Lutheran 73-64 in Hartland, Wisconsin. The long bus trip apparently fueled the Vikings. Brandon Steebs stepped off the bus and poured in 16 points to pace Gibraltar. Tim Alberts added 13 points as the Northern Door school provided the big upset of the night. A 21 point first quarter helped springboard the Vikings to a ten point lead. They pulled away in the third quarter taking an 11 point lead into the fourth quarter.
All other regional tournament games in the area were postponed until tonight due to extreme winter weather.
