The defending Division 3 state champions will have the chance to bring home the gold ball again. The Kewaunee girls basketball team kicked up their game in the second half to deny Appleton Xavier 54-40 in Saturday’s sectional final.
The second quarter was rough for the Storm with point guard Jill Kleiman on the bench in foul trouble. Xavier forced 10 turnovers and outscored Kewaunee 17-5 to steal the lead. That was quite enough for the Storm and the girls came back from halftime with determination.
Alex Richard and Kelsey Stangel each put up 16 points while Kiley Heim chipped in with four 3-pointers for the Storm.
Kewaunee faces Lodi in a state semifinal game at 9:05 a.m. Friday at the Resch Center.
