
In WIAA Division 4 State Semi-Final Girls Basketball action Thursday night at the Resch Center in Green Bay, the Algoma Wolves dominated the Cuba City Cubans 62-39. Algoma got off to a fast start with a 10-0 run in the first four minutes. Freshman center Anna Dier scored six of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Wolves used their “Buzz” pressure defense forcing turnovers and frustrating the over-matched Cubans. Dier said as soon as Cuba City's starting center got into foul trouble, the inside opened up in a big way.

Cuba City never got closer than 12 points after trailing 30-18 at halftime and shot only 25% from the field for the game.
Senior point guard Taylor Schmidt had another stellar floor game for Algoma with 13 points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals. Kennedy Blahnik chipped in with 13 points and ten rebounds.
Dier dominated inside finishing nine for ten from the field with five blocks and four steals on the defensive end. The freshman post player said the Wolves now must finish the job Saturday.
