
Competing at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, 42 swimmers from the Door County YMCA Doorfins swam last weekend in the 2013 YMCA Wisconsin state championship. The three day event featured 14 state championships for Door County.
An amazing performance by Max McHugh in the 12 year old division included four state championships and four state records in the only four events he swam.
His older brother Connor also claimed four state championships with one state record in the 100 breaststroke. The Sevastopol junior is a national champion but this was his first state record.
In the eight-year-old and under bracket, Drew Raas won a state title in the 50 breaststroke. Drew beat his teammate Isaac Aune by one one-hundreth of a second. Isaac Aune did claim a state championship in the 25 breaststroke.
Eric John Peterson won a state championship in the 13 and 14 year old bracket. Erica Smith won her first career state title in the open bracket. Savanna Townsend captured yet another state title in her decorated swimming career.
Head Coach Mike McHugh will be on 104.1 FM WRLU to talk about the relay state champions this week as well as shed some light on the girls relay team that qualified for the nationals.
