From opening tip to final buzzer, the Marquette men’s basketball team dominated Miami in a Sweet 16 matchup last night in Washington D.C. The 71-61 victory actually looks closer than the game actually was on the hardwood.
It was a true team effort with trapping defense, great recovery and smart passing that sliced the Hurricanes. Jamil Wilson had 16 points and eight rebounds, Vander Blue finished with 14 points, and Davante Gardner added 14 points including some clutch free throws down the stretch.
Marquette is in the Elite Eight for the first time since 2003, when Dwyane Wade and Steve Novak were leading the team. The third-seeded Golden Eagles (26-8) will next face No. 4 seed Syracuse in the East Regional final tomorrow.
