The longtime voice of Kewaunee High School sports Paul Nimmer will join Teresa (Teske) Bortolini, Barry Nelson, and Verdelma “Dolly” Paine as the newest members of the Kewaunee High Wall of Fame.
“Build the Future” will host its annual Wall of Fame banquet to honor these four outstanding graduates of Kewaunee High School on April 14 at JW’s Place in Slovan. Cocktails will be at 5 p.m., dinner will be at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 and are available from the Union State Bank, Baylake Bank, the Novak Agency, or any Build the Future Foundation members.
Here is a look at Paul Nimmer’s bio:
Paul Nimmer is a 1981 graduate of Kewaunee High School. While in high school, Paul was Sophomore Class President, Varsity Letter Club member, member of the Ski Club and Conservation O.R. Club, and Theater Guild. He also played baseball, basketball, and football all four years.
Paul was an outstanding athlete, being Captain of the baseball team in 1981, and making the All-Conference teams in baseball and football. He was an exceptional basketball player earning MVP in 1979 and 1980 and All-Conference. He was elected to the All N.E.W. Basketball team in 1981, was a participant in the 1981 WIAA Class B State Basketball Championships, and was selected to the International Olympic Basketball Team representing the Green Bay/Fox Valley area in a competition in Oslo, Norway.
Paul has been a member of the Kewaunee Fire Department since 1988 and is a certified Firefighter 1 and 2 with promotions to Fire Inspector, Sub-engineer, Captain, and Assistant Fire Chief. He was nominated in 2005 for the Door/Kewaunee County Firefighter of the Year for the state of Wisconsin. Paul is also the Assistant Director for the Emergency Management System for the City of Kewaunee.
For many years, Paul has coached Kewaunee youth in basketball, softball, and Kewaunee County Legion baseball. In 2009 he was named Kewaunee Trout Festival Honoree. He is also Chairman of the Memorial Field and Kewaunee City Parks renovation projects where new dugouts, fences, and foul polls were installed. He also helped with fundraising and the installation of a new scoreboard.
Paul has been a Kewaunee Chamber Maids member since 1988. He has also been the event coordinator of the Immanuel Lutheran Family Life Center since 2001, and in that role has improved seating areas above the gym, and secured the donation of a pitching machine for the gym.
Paul had a part-time job at WAUN Radio while in high school and for the past 30 years he has helped broadcast local sports on WBDK 96.7 FM for the Kewaunee Storm.
Paul started employment with Hamachek Machine Company in 1982, moved to Greiling Farms in 1992 as Warehouse Manager, and since 1998 has been employed with the Vollrath Company, currently as Production Manager.
Paul is married to Brenda (Walter) Nimmer and they have two children, Karlee and Reggie.
