The St. Louis Cardinals shut out the Milwaukee Brewers 8-0 yesterday at Busch Stadium.
Cardinals’ right-hander Adam Wainwright allowed four hits and went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in two runs. Yovani Gallardo started off well, giving up just one run on three hits in the first five innings, and then the Cardinals came out swinging in the sixth. St. Louis went on a seven-run, seven-hit streak, retiring Gallardo. Overall he allowed seven hits and six runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Milwaukee’s offense struggled as well with just two hits through the first six innings. For the second day in a row, Ryan Braun struck out three times. Braun is still not quite himself after missing last weekend’s series with a stiff neck.
The Brewers and the Cardinals face off in the final game of the series today at 1:15.
