Milwaukee Hits Hard In The First

The Brewers are on a roll, winning their fifth straight game yesterday against the Chicago Cubs 5-4. Milwaukee stacked up four runs in the first inning and coasted through the next eight at Miller Park.

Cubs starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija started the night with a 2.75 ERA and the fourth-best strikeout total in the National League. That changed quickly as Ryan Braun stepped up to the plate and smacked a three-run home run followed by a Rickie Weeks double and an RBI triple from Jonathon Lucroy. Milwaukee had a team cycle before the first out.

Chicago answered in the third inning against Milwaukee starter Marco Estrada. Luis Valbuena connected for a home run and David DeJesus hit a two-run homer to put the score at 4-3. Overall Estrada gave up three runs on seven hits in six innings.

Carlos Gomez led off the seventh inning with a home run for the Brewers and Anthony Rizzo answered for Chicago with a solo home run in the eighth inning.

The two teams match up again tonight in Milwaukee at 6:10.
