Door County To Celebrate Safe Boating Week

A sunny day on the water can turn deadly in seconds. Wisconsin ranks No. 7 in the nation for boating fatalities, with boating mishaps causing 23 deaths in the state in 2012 alone.

The National Safe Boating Council is hoping to increase life jacket safety awareness, as approximately 84 percent of drowning victims in recreational boating accidents were not wearing a life jacket, according to the U.S. Coast Guard 2011 Recreational Boating Safety Statistics.

The National Safe Boating Council is kicking off its national campaign promoting safe boating and life jacket safety this weekend with National Safe Boating Week, which runs from May 18-24.

The National Safe Boating Council, its local partners, and this station remind you: don’t just carry a life jacket – “Wear It!”
