Brewers shortstop Jean Segura and centerfielder Carlos Gomez may be teammates but they are battling for the top batting average in the National League. Segura was batting .361 heading into Sunday’s series finale with the Cardinals. His average was the best in the NL. Gomez entered Sunday with a .352 average. The centerfielder was the number one batter in the NL just the day before.
Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke added a little pressure on Gomez by placing him in the cleanup spot Sunday, his first Major League start hitting fourth. While the team is struggling on the scoreboard these two are at least making things interesting for Brewers fans looking to root for something positive.
