After two weekends of competition in Mayville, Wisconsin, Southern Door sophomore Mitchell Overbeck won the Class D High School State Trap Shoot. The state champion shot 77 out of 100 targets during the six day trap shoot. Overbeck’s best round was 23 out of 25. Team coordinator Kim Welch said Overbeck got better each round.
Two Southern Door teams finished seventh and ninth place in the 41st annual state high school trap shoot. The top shooting team was placed into the Class A State championship level. Joey Bosman, Hunter Blaiser, Eli Hank, Mitchell Overbeck and Nathan LeMere finished seventh out of 21 teams. Nathan LeMere shot a perfect 25/25 round during the team shoot. The top team in the state shot 423. Door County shot 419, just four birds off the pace.
Team two was placed in Class C and finished ninth out of 21 teams. The Door County Youth Trap Team included Lance LeCloux, Erik Bosman, Garrett Fernandez, Alec Fischer and Ben Hoida. The top team in Class C shot 388. The Door County youth team was only five shots off the lead with a 383.
