Algoma Wolves senior shortstop Taylor Schmidt was named the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Division 4 State Player of the Year this week. Schmidt led the Algoma Wolves to their first ever state championships in softball.
The award is the latest announcement involving the all-state basketball player, Packerland Conference player of the year in basketball and softball and Wisconsin State All-Star game invitee for both sports.
Schmidt said her senior season finished better than she could have dreamed.

The Milwaukee Brewers also want to honor the Algoma Wolves accomplishments this season. The team has been invited to be on the field before an August game to be determined.
The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh will be the next step for the Bellin Health “Comeback Player of the Year.” Summer practice actually started today at the Kolf Center at UWO. I asked Schmidt if the state player of the year in softball has her thinking about playing two sports in college.

Schmidt was full of praise for her family, coaches, teammates and community members. She said without all the support from them none of this would have been possible.
