The Bullfrogs lost to the Chinooks 9-4 on the Fourth of July, as Green Bay fell to 0-1 in the second half of the Northwoods League season.
After a scoreless first, the scoring began in the second. Aaron Machbitz (South Dakota State) singled and drove in Jerrick Suiter (TCU). Two more runs would come around to score. These runs were unearned to Bellin after a Bullfrog error allowed Machbitz and Cody Bobbit (Wichita State) to score. Lakeshore took a 3-0 lead after two innings at Joannes Stadium.
The Chinooks added on another in the third inning, with Mike Papi (Virginia) tagging on a sacrifice fly from John Norwood (Vanderbilt). This was only the second earned run of the game charged to Bryce Bellin. Lakeshore had a 4-0 lead after three innings and didn’t look back for the rest of the game.
Green Bay added three solo home runs throughout the game with Nick Torres (Cal Poly) and Cabe Reiten (Gonzaga) hitting their second home runs of the season, and Bryant Burleson (Texas Tech) hitting his fourth.
The Chinooks used three pitchers throughout the night. Donnie Hissa came on in the seventh inning to relieve starter Joe Greenfield, who earned the win. Karch Kowalczyk came in to finish out the game for Lakeshore. He allowed one earned run in two innings of work.
The loss went to Bryce Bellin (0-3), and the win to Greenfield (2-1).
