Friends of Gibraltar Making Positive Impact Within Gibraltar School System

By Brandon Enroth

The Friends of Gibraltar (FOG) non-profit has been active in Fish Creek since the 1982. The organization works within the school system of Gibraltar to bring unique exciting experiential programs to the students based on education. Executive Director and Project Coordinator Vinni Chomeau talks about which grade levels participate in the programs that Friends of Gibraltar sponsors.

Chomeau says that since their calendar revolves around the school year, FOG wants to make sure to stagger the events so that students have new programs to participate in throughout the entire year. One event held this past fall was for Gibraltar seniors who participated with local restaurants in the area for a cooking day, in which the students learned about the different cuisines of the restaurant and were able to make some food with the chefs at those particular restaurants. Chomeau also mentioned that the students are very excited about the upcoming FOG event in January, which will feature the world famous Step Afrika dancing group coming to Gibraltar and putting on workshops with the students continuing the education of different African cultures and the significance of dance within their communities.
