Dorothy "Dotty" Marie Miller

Dorothy “Dotty” Marie Miller, 90, of Sand Bay, passed away Saturday morning, November 24, 2018.

She was born June 7, 1928 in Sand Bay, the daughter of the late Harrison “Harry” and Amy (Haines) Lewis. Dotty was raised in Chicago, IL and also spent summers living at Sand Bay.

Dotty and her family moved back to Door County in 1974. Dotty worked as a nurse’s aide at the Dorchester Hospital when she was young and as a licensed audiologist after returning to Door County. She had worked as a bartender at the Nightingale and Andre’s for a few years.  Dotty also sold Natural Foods before it was the in-thing and owned her own bookstore. In 1989, she moved to Denver, CO to help a few months caring for her daughters’ newborn twins. Seven years later, she returned to Sand Bay. Dotty loved being a grandma and helping with the grandkids.

She was a member of Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay and the Sons of Norway.

Dotty will be missed by her five children, Terry (Lydia) Miller of Palatine, IL, Michael Miller of Marco Island, FL, Sue (Greg) Ebel of Sturgeon Bay, Sandy (Martin) Cirbo of Centennial, CO, and Matthew “Will” Miller of Sturgeon Bay; eight grandchildren, April Miller, Luke (Katy), Zeb, Wade (Laura), and Matt (Jessica) Ebel, Shannon, Amy, and Kayla Cirbo; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Hunter, Heatley, Phoebe, Michael, Braxton, and Maverick Ebel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark Miller; grandson, Andy Ebel; brother, Robert Miller; and half-brothers, Harrison and Lawrence.

Dotty’s life will be honored with a funeral service held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Tim Malek officiating. She will be laid to rest in Hainesville Cemetery in summer 2019.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until the time of services.
