Richard E. Dufek

Richard Edward Dufek, 80, of Sturgeon Bay passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay on December 8, 2018. He was born June 12, 1938 in Sturgeon Bay to George and Irene (Jeanquart) Dufek Sr.

 

Richard graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1956. He then attended and graduated from Door-Kewaunee County Teacher’s College in 1958 and became an elementary school teacher. Richard taught at Stokes School (1958-60) and Maplewood School (1960-61). He later received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (1963) and taught at Sevastopol from 1963-67.

 

After his father’s death in 1967, he left the teaching profession to work the family farm. Richard returned to teaching in 1969 at Southern Door and then went on to earn his Masters of Science Degree in Teaching from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1972. He continued teaching at Southern Door until his retirement in 1998. He was a life member of the National Education Association, Wisconsin Education Association Council, Southern Door Education Association and Holy Name of Mary Church in Maplewood.

 

Survivors include his sister, Dorene Dufek of Green Bay; nieces and nephews, Patti (Steve) Vickman, Jim (Lori) Marin, Bill Marin, Mary (Mike) Jacobson, Nancy (Chuck) Cherney, Lynn (Terry) Jerabek, Jean (Roland) Treml, Mary Jo (Randy) Gigot, Paul (Mary) Dufek, Lori (Dan) LeGrave, Larry (Patti) Dufek. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Francis, George and Wallace; a sister, Carolyn Marin; sisters- in- law, Pat and Eleanor Dufek; a brother- in- law, Bob Marin; a nephew Jerry Marin.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2018, at Holy Name of Mary Church, Maplewood, the Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Forbes Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church until time of services. A prayer service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. On-line condolences may be made at forbesfuneralhome.com.


A memorial fund has been established at the Southern Door County School District.
