 Joe T. Schartner

Joe T. Schartner, 63 years, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019 in Pembine, Wisconsin.
He was born November 17, 1956 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Franklin and Dolores (Wendt) Schartner. Joe graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1974. On August 19, 1978, he married Jan M. Reimer. They bought the Cyril Vertz orchard and operated that for a few years until he went to work for Bay Shipbuilding. As work slowed there, he moved to PBI for some years before working 14 years with his brother and sister-in-law at the Staats Farm. He went back to Bay Ship in 2001 and worked there until his retirement last year. Most recently, Joe was employed at Peninsula Golf Course as a groundskeeper.
Joe was an active member of S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he served many years as usher. He was a member of Boilermakers Union Local #449. He loved hunting with his family and friends, playing sheepshead, softball, and bowling. Joe was a member of the “TV” club, and especially loved watching all Brewers games. Not knowing how to take him sometimes, Joe explained his serious demeanor, mixed with his own unique dry sense of humor, as “it’s my way of making them smile or laugh”. Joe was very proud of the life he and Jan built together.
His family includes his wife, Jan; children, Kendall (Jason) Brauer, Jason (Wilma Prins) Schartner, Danielle (Eric) Glesner, Andrew (Madelaine) Schartner; grandchildren, Lanie, Blake, Eli, Max and one due on Christmas day; siblings, Lynn (Delbert Brandley) Hails, Nancy (Robert) Moore, Jeff (Laurie) Schartner, Mary (Randal) Leist, Sandy (Richard) Brauer; siblings-in-law, Sue (William) Millonig, Barb (Kenneth) DeMeuse, Debra (Edward) Staats; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends and co-workers.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Frank (Cari) Schartner; brother-in-law, Charles Hails; parents-in-law, Doug and Danica Reimer; and nephews, Randy VanGheem and Ryan Millonig.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 22, 2019, at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Friends may call Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Huehns Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. A parish wake service will be held Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in Joe’s memory to S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Sevastopol Pioneer Athletic Booster Club.
“Joe led a simple life, and he loved it”.
Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC in Sturgeon Bay are assisting the family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photo
