Dozens of local athletes will move onto Thursday's sectional meets after successful days at WIAA Regional meets on Monday.

The teams were divided up evenly between two sites with Southern Door, Luxemburg-Casco, and Sturgeon Bay competing in Brillion while Gibraltar, Algoma, Kewaunee. and Sevastopol traveling to Hilbert. The Kewaunee boys track team earned bragging rights for the area as they won the Hilbert Regional with 153 points, nearly 60 more than second-place Manitowoc Lutheran. The top four athletes in each event move on to Thursday's sectional meets.

Five area teams will be in action on Tuesday as their journey to Madison continues, including two games that will be featured on the NEW Radio Sports Network. 

The top-seeded Algoma Wolves will host the Roncalli Jets in a Division 4 WIAA Softball Regional semi-final in Algoma. The pregame will start at 4:15 p.m. with the first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on 104.1 WRLU.  Paul Schmitt and Shelly Lau will have the call from Peterson Park in Algoma.  The game will also be streamed on NewRadioSportsNetwork.com. 

The Sevastopol Pioneers will kick off their WIAA Tournament run with a familiar foe on Tuesday when they welcome NEW Lutheran to Institute. Jacob Nate will have the call from Sevastopol Town Park on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 4:45 p.m., with the pregame show followed by the first pitch at 5 p.m.

Other games scheduled for Tuesday include Kewaunee traveling to Chilton (4:30 p.m.), Southern Door visiting Valders (4:30 p.m.), and Luxemburg-Casco hosting Marinette (4:30 p.m.). 

All three local soccer teams will be in action on Tuesday, with two of those teams facing off each other.

Luxemburg-Casco will play host to Sturgeon Bay under the lights at 6:30 p.m. The Spartans are coming off a 12-0 dismantlement of Clintonville on Monday while the Clippers were shut out by state-ranked Sheboygan Lutheran 4-0.

Sevastopol/Gibraltar will host Wrightstown at 5 p.m. in Institute.

The road to Blackwolf Run in Kohler begins on Tuesday for the area's high school golf teams.

Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, and Luxemburg-Casco will compete against Denmark, Freedom, Little Chute, Seymour,  Two Rivers, Wrightstown and Xavier at High Cliff Golf Course in Sherwood for their regional.

Gibraltar, Sevastopol, and Kewaunee will face off against Bonduel, Gillett, NEW Lutheran. Oneida Nation, Mishicot, Lena, and Oconto at Golden Sands Golf Course in Bonduel for their regional.

Both meets begin at 9 a.m.

Some of the area's local baseball teams hope they have better luck fitting in games tonight than they did on Monday with multiple contests washed out..

Algoma will play host to WIS 54 rivals Luxemburg-Casco at 4:30 p.m. while Sturgeon Bay is scheduled to travel to Oconto Falls for a 5 p.m. first pitch.

Many other teams are waiting until Thursday to get restarted when the WIAA Tournament kicks off. 

There was plenty of drama to found across the Door County League baseball slate on Sunday as the season entered its second week.

The Washington Island Islanders would apply pressure all day against the Maplewood Mets, but the Mets would come out on top in a 2-1 battle.

Kolberg's ninth-inning rally fell short as they lost to Sister Bay 9-6 on the road.

Baileys Harbor registered 10 hits and capitalized on six Cubs errors in a 10-4 road victory in Institute.

Joe Sawyer did it all from the plate and on the mound for the Indians as Egg Harbor posted the 8-1 victory over West Jacksonport.

The fate of the Packerland Conference hangs in the balance on Monday as a part of the slate of games scheduled for Monday.

Gibraltar'Washington island will head down to face Kewaunee to finish a suspended game that left both teams tied at 3-3. The game is scheduled to be restarted at 7:15 p.m. According to PackerlandConference.org, they are fitting in the conclusion around the Vikings' game at Hilbert and Kewaunee's matchup against Valders.

Other games include Luxemburg-Casco hosting Denmark (4:30 p.m.) and Sevastopol hosting Sheboygan Lutheran (5 p.m.).

The area's track teams hope to extend their season on Monday when they head to one of several regional sites throughout the state.

Southern Door, Luxemburg-Casco, and Sturgeon Bay will be in Brillion to face the host school, Denmark, Notre Dame Academy, Two Rivers, and Wrightstown. First events begin at 3:45 p.m.

Gibraltar, Algoma, Kewaunee. and Sevastopol will face off against the likes of Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran, Manitowoc Lutheran, Mishicot, Reedsville, Roncalli, and Valders at Hilbert. The first events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. 

The Green Bay Glory won their second match in as many days on Sunday, beating the Fox Valley SC Strikers 2-0.

The Glory set the tone early when Edgar Heredia scored five minutes into the match. Cameron Jochimsen tacked on an insurance goal to earn the victory. In their first two matches of the season, the Glory have outscored their opponents 8-1.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Beloit Sky Carp 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  The Rattlers jumped to a 5-0 lead and withstood a rally from the visitors thanks to two scoreless innings from the bullpen.

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander DL Hall made a brief and effective rehabilitation start for the Timber Rattlers.  He worked a 1-2-3 top of the first inning with one strikeout and needed eleven pitches for his day.

Jesús Chirinos, who hit the three-run walkoff home run on Saturday, put Wisconsin up 2-0 with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the second inning on Sunday.

The Timber Rattlers added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring three runs on one hit.  Jheremy Vargas reached on a fielder’s choice by beating the throw to first on a potential double play ball.  Dylan O’Rae walked and Jadher Areinamo singled to load the bases.  Gregory Barrios sent a towering fly deep to the left field corner.  The ball was caught on the warning track with Vargas scoring and O’Rae moving to third.  The throw into the cutoff man got away for an error to allow Areinamo to take second base.

Luke Adams was at the plate with two outs when Alex Williams threw a pitch in the dirt that trickled away from catcher Cameron Barstad.  O’Rae broke for the plate and scored with Barstad’s throw getting by Williams and rolling back up the third baseline.  Areinamo, who was already at third saw the opening and raced for the plate to score for a 5-0 lead.

Beloit got to reliever Edwin Jimenez in the top of the sixth.  Josh Zamora cracked a three-run homer with one out to cut Wisconsin’s lead to two runs.  Jimenez retired the next two batters and pitched a scoreless seventh inning.  He allowed three runs over six innings of relief with two walks and six strikeouts to put himself in line for his sixth win of the season.

Wisconsin’s bullpen denied the Sky Carp a comeback on Sunday.  Chase Costello pitched a perfect eighth with one strikeout.  Craig Yoho worked around a two-out walk to pitch a scoreless ninth for his sixth save of the season.

The Timber Rattlers offense only struck out four times in Sunday’s game.  They struck out just 30 times in the six-game series.

The Rattlers took five of six from the Sky Carp in the series and maintain a 1-1/2 game lead over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in the West Division of the Midwest League.  The Kernels have won seven in a row and completed a six-game sweep of the Quad Cities River Bandits on Sunday with a 5-3 win.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday.  They return to action with a return to Four Winds Field in South Bend, Indiana for the start of a six-game series with the South Bend Cubs.  Mark Manfredi (1-0, 3.57) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin.  The Cubs have named Aaron Perry (0-1, 1.23) as their starting pitcher.  Game time is 5:05pm CDT.

With new head coaches comes new coaching staffs, and Green Bay's newest leaders are wasting no time filling out those position.

On the women's side, the program has officially announced Allie LeClaire, Sarah Bronk, and Kate Peterson Abiad as assistant coaches on the staff. Bronk coached Karius and LeClaire as a member of Matt Bollant's staff and has stuck with the program since then. Abiad was the head coach at Cleveland State before taking a position with the WIAA until her recent resignation.

On the men's side, Jon Rothstein reports that Doug Gottlieb has hired Kansas City's Aerick Sanders as an assistant coach. Sanders has also coached at Montana State, UNLV, and New Mexico State. If confirmed, he would join Jordan McCabe on the staff, who was kept on after former head coach Sundance Wicks hired him prior to his departure to Wyoming.

The inaugural season for the Green Bay Glory got off to a strong note on Saturday afternoon, beating Rockford FC at the Banta Bowl 6-1.

The Glory scored three goals in each half to earn the victory. Ozzy Ramirez (11th), Ethan Dietrich (27th), Tommy Geocaris (41st), Cooper Re (79th, 84th), and Trent Kazlauskas (86th) registered the goals for the Glory in the win.

Jesús Chirinos saved the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers from a tough defeat at the hands of the Beloit Sky Carp on Saturday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field.  Beloit rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take a 7-5 lead in the top of the ninth.  Then, Chirinos played the hero by cracking a three-run, walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth to send the Rattlers to an 8-7 victory.

The Rattlers (25-13) had the lead from almost the very start of the game.  Luis Lara reached on an error to start the bottom of the first inning and Wisconsin made the Sky Carp pay for the miscue.  Beloit starter Ike Buxton hit Dylan O’Rae to put two runners on base.  Gregory Barrios followed with a single to left to score Lara.  The throw home was off line and that allowed both O’Rae and Barrios to move into scoring position.

Matt Wood scored O’Rae and moved Barrios to third with a ground out.  Luke Adams drove in Barrios with a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.

Alexander Cornielle, the Wisconsin starter, tossed five scoreless innings.  He allowed two hits, hit two batter, and struck out four.  In his last three starts, Cornielle has pitched eighteen shutout innings with seventeen strikeouts.

Barrios added with the Rattlers advantage with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Beloit (18-19) started their comeback in the sixth inning against reliever KC Hunt as Jake DeLeo drove in a run with a two-out double.

Hunt pitched a perfect seventh but had issues finding the final out in the eighth.  The Sky Carp had runners on second and third with one out and Torin Montgomery grounded out to short to drive in one run.  DeLeo made it 5-3 with an RBI single.  Sam Praytor cut Wisconsin’s lead to a single run with a double to the gap in right-center.  Hunt got his fifth strikeout of the game to end the inning with the Rattlers still in the lead.

Yerlin Rodriguez, who was 5-for-5 in save opportunities coming into Saturday went out for the top of the ninth to face the top of the Beloit order.  He got the first out before giving up singles to Jake Thompson and Mark Coley II.  Josh Zamora, who had homered in the previous two games in the series, singled to right and it looked like the bases would be loaded with one out.  However, Eduarqui Fernández misplayed the ball to allow Thompson and Coley to score to give the Sky Carp a 6-5 lead.

Montgomery added an insurance run for Beloit with a two-out, infield single that trickled up the third base line to score Zamora from third.

The Timber Ratters had to come back in the bottom of the ninth against Josh Ekness, a right-hander with a high-90s fastball who had allowed just one run and struck out 24 in seventeen innings between the Florida State League and Midwest League this season.

Tayden Hall started the rally by drawing walk with one-out, only the fourth walk by Ekness this season.  Terence Doston kept the rally going when he dropped a single into center on a 1-2 pitch to set the stage for Chirinos.

Ekness got ahead of Chirinos with two quick strikes.  Then, he missed his location on his 0-2 pitch and Chirinos didn’t miss the opportunity.  Chirinos crushed the hanger out of the stadium for his second home run of the season to give Wisconsin an 8-7 victory.

The walkoff homer by Chirinos was the first by a Timber Rattler since Joey Wiemer hit a three-run walkoff home run to beat Beloit 7-5 on September 5, 2021.

The victory by the Rattlers clinched a series win over the Sky Carp with four wins in the first five games of the series with one game left between the teams this weekend.

Sunday afternoon is the series finale for the Rattlers and Beloit.  DL Hall is scheduled to make the start for the Timber Rattlers on a Major League rehabilitation assignment from the Milwaukee Brewers.  Alex Williams (1-2, 8.18) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 1:10pm.

Two of Door County's baseball teams lost in their non-conference matchups on Saturday as they prepare for the start of the WIAA Tournament next week.

The Southern Door offense could not find a way to bring runners home Saturday morning on U102.1, falling to St. Mary's Catholic 11-0 in Brussels.

The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings and the Clintonville Truckers combined for nearly 30 hits on Saturday, but the visitors came away with the 12-9 victory on Washington Island.

Gibraltar and Kewaunee each picked up doubleheader sweeps on the baseball diamond Friday evening as they were featured on the NEW Radio Sports Network.

On 105.1 The GOAT, Gibraltar/Washington Island's baseball team was just as dangerous with their patience as they were with their bats in their doubleheader sweep of NEW Lutheran on Friday, beating them 14-1(six innings) and 12-0 (five innings).

The Kewaunee Storm claimed a share of the Packerland Conference Friday night by shutting out the Sturgeon Bay Clippers 10-0 and 4-0 in doubleheader action at Memorial Field on 104.1 WRLU.

The Luxemburg-Casco baseball team outhit Little Chute 4-3, but were outscored 2-0 in their latest loss to their NEC rival.

After playing Sevastopol on Friday, the Southern Door Eagles baseball team caps off the week with a non-conference matchup on Saturday morning against St. Mary Catholic. The first pitch, with Jacob Nate and Eric Fischer on the call, is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday. The pregame show on U-102.1 and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Two area teams lost on Friday night, but only one of them will still be playing on Tuesday.

A three-run inning for the De Pere Redbirds proved fatal for the Luxemburg-Casco softball team on Friday as they lost for only the second time this season by a score of 4-1.

The Sturgeon Bay softball team could never get their offense going on Friday, losing 15-0 in three innings to Kiel.

The Green Bay Glory men's soccer team officially open their inaugural season on Saturday when they play Rockford FC at the Banta Bowl.

The Glory split their two Amateur Cup games, most recently losing their Mother's Day matchup 1-0. In their Cup opening win, Edgar Heredia Victoria scored the first goal in team history in the 13th minute, giving the Glory a 1-0 lead at the break. The Glory would add two more tallies in the second half, with Keven Sosa scoring in the 50th minute and Osvaldo Ramírez adding insurance in the 64th minute.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Indoor Football League's top defense will try to defend the Resch Center on Saturday when the Frisco Fighters come to town to face the Green Bay Blizzard.

The Blizzard leads the league in points allowed, total sacks, and third-down completion percentage, among other statistical categories. Last weekend, that was in full display when the Blizzard beat the Tulsa Oilers 42-22, allowing them to less than 200 yards of total offense. Max Meylor nearly outgained the Oilers himself, throwing for 161 and rushing for another 29 en route to a five-touchdown afternoon. 

The Blizzard play the Oilers at 3:05 p.m. Saturday.

The WIAA Softball Tournament is underway, but some local teams are still getting some extra work in this week to prepare for their opening games on Tuesday.

In tournament action, a big inning proved fatal for the Gibraltar/Washington Island softball team once again in Thursday's 11-6 loss. Sturgeon Bay saw their tournament postponed to Friday at 4:30 p.m. when they face the host Kiel Raiders. 

In exhibition, Algoma was the only other team to get a game in on Thursday, beating Bay Port 4-2.

On Friday, Luxemburg-Casco will try to get some extra work in against De Pere (4:30 p.m.) after their Thursday matchup against Southern Door was rained out. 

The NEW Radio Sports Network will feature three area teams across two radio stations on Friday after Thursday's rains washed away the only game of local note.

The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings will start their busy weekend on Friday with a trip to Green Bay to visit NEW Lutheran for a baseball doubleheader. Tim Kowols and Eric Fischer will have both ends of the doubleheader, beginning with the first pitch at 4 p.m. The pregame show will start at 3:45 p.m. on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork. Some players will have a road trip in the other direction on Saturday when Gibraltar/Washington Island hosts Clintonville on Washington Island beginning at 11 a.m.

The Kewaunee Storm will host the Sturgeon Bay Clippers on Saturday in a key Packerland Conference baseball doubleheader at Memorial Field in Kewaunee. Pregame for the first game will begin at 4:45 p.m. Friday, with the first pitch set for 5 p.m. on 104.1 WRLU. The second game will start about 15 minutes after the opener, with both games on-air and streamed on New Radio Sports Network. Paul Schmitt and Henry Annen will have the call from Memorial Field in Kewaunee.

Other games scheduled for Friday include a twin bill featuring Sevastopol and Southern Door in Institute (4:30 p.m.) and Luxemburg-Casco traveling to Little Chute (4:30 p.m.). 

The Sturgeon Bay girls' soccer team will have no shortage of matches before their WIAA opener against NEW Lutheran on May 30th.

No score was reported from Thursday's scheduled contest against the Blazers, though the storms that ran through the area may have also postponed that matchup.

The Clippers are scheduled to play Marinette on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The team has split their last five matches, going 2-2-1, including a record of 1-2-0 at last weekend's Kiel Tournament. The Marines sit atop the NEC with a 5-1-1 mark in the conference and a 9-3-1 mark overall. They beat Luxemburg-Casco 6-1 in their last match. 

The Clippers' JV team is also scheduled to play Milwaukee Reagan at noon on Saturday. During halftime of the match, the program will honor Maddie Hemminger with a signing celebration. Hemminger will sign her National Letter of Intent to play soccer at Carroll University.

In other Thursday action, Luxemburg-Casco lost to Waupaca 1-0 on the road, while no score was shared from Sevastopol/Gibraltar's match at Peshtigo.

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were looking to make it five wins in a row with a victory over the Beloit Sky Carp on Thursday Night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.  Cade Gibson and his teammates had other ideas.  Gibson pitched seven scoreless innings with support from three home run and the Sky Carp beat the Rattlers 6-0.

Beloit (18-17) scored first for the third straight game of the series.  Josh Zamora hit a solo home run with one out in the top of the second inning for a 1-0 advantage.

Wisconsin starting pitcher Will Rudy retired the first two Sky Carp batters on two pitches in the third inning and it looked like the Rattlers hitters would get another crack at Gibson.  However, Yiddi Cappe fouled off three two-strike pitches and beat out an infield single to keep the inning alive.  Jake Thompson was next, and he singled to right on a 3-2 pitch.  Then, Mark Coley II hit a long homer on a 2-0 pitch.  Cameron Barstad followed with another long home run and the Sky Carp were up 5-0.

Osiris Johnson made it a 6-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth and neither team threatened for the remainder of the game.

Gibson needed 83 pitches to match his single-game high as a pro for innings.  The lefty allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out three over his seven innings.  Josh Ekness and Dale Stanavich both worked a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to hand Wisconsin its first shutout loss of the season.

Wisconsin (23-13) used a quartet of relievers to cover the final five innings after Rudy left the game.  Jake Polancic tossed a perfect fifth inning with two strikeouts.  Aaron Rund worked two scoreless innings with a walk and two strikeouts.  Tyler Wehrle pitched the eighth inning with three strikeouts and an infield single.  Craig Yoho pitched a 1-2-3 top of the ninth with two strikeouts.

Yoho has 31 strikeouts in sixteen innings pitched with the Rattlers this season.

The Sky Carp ended a six-game losing streak with their win on Thursday night.

Game four of the series is Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field.  Brian Fitzpatrick (2-1, 4.05) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers.  Karson Milbrandt (1-2, 3.14) is set to start for the Sky Carp.  Game time is 6:40pm CDT. 

Two area softball teams are in do-or-die mode on Thursday while others are looking for at-bats before beginning their own WIAA Tournament runs on Tuesday.

The Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings would like to have another matchup against their Packerland foes in Algoma, but they will have to get past the Roncalli Jets Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the WIAA Softball Tournament. Tim Kowols will have the call in Manitowoc on 105.1 The GOAT beginning at 4:15 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening pitch at 4:30 p.m. Sturgeon Bay will also open their WIAA Tournament run when they visit Kiel for a game at 4:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Luxemburg-Casco earned their second straight NEC championship with a 6-0 win against Marinette. They return to action on Thursday with a game against local rival Southern Door at 4:30 p.m. Algoma will hit the road to get some extra playing time as they travel to Suamico to play at Bay Port (4:30 p.m.).

Many local teams are saving their at-bats for the weekend as the area will see only one game on Thursday after a single contest on Wednesday.

Heads-up baserunning in the bottom of the seventh inning led the Luxemburg-Casco baseball team to beat St. Mary Catholic on Wednesday, 5-4.

The only local game on Thursday is Algoma's trip to Pedersen Park to face Marinette (4:30 p.m.).

All three soccer teams in the area will be in action on Thursday as they work to build their resumes ahead of the  the WIAA Tournament.

Thursday's matches include Sturgeon Bay hosting NEW Lutheran (6 p.m.), Sevastopol/Gibraltar visiting Peshtigo (6 p.m.), and Luxemburg-Casco heading to Waupaca (6 p.m.).
