Historic Fresnel lenses from lighthouses in Kewaunee and Algoma will soon find new homes in different museums. The U.S. Coast Guard has now scheduled the lens removals from the Kewaunee Pierhead Lighthouse and the Algoma Light for late spring. Environmental Engineer Wayne Kean, who works with the U.S. Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit in Cleveland, says the removal work won't require a lot of time, though the goal is to carefully remove the historic lenses.
The Kewaunee and Algoma lighthouses are two of four to have their Fresnel lenses removed this summer. The other two are in Frankfort, Michigan and Grand Marais, Michigan.
