HPV and Cervical Cancer Awareness with Kali Olson

It may not grab the same headlines as breast cancer or lung cancer, but doctors want you to listen closely if you are at risk of developing gynecologic cancers. According to the American Cancer Society, almost 116,000 women were diagnosed with gynecological cancers in 2024, which impact the female reproductive system. Dr. Kali Olson says that like many cancers early detection is key, especially since the five-year survival rate is 90 to 98 percent for early-stage cervical cancer patients and getting vaccinated for HPV can protect you.

Mental Health Awareness Month with Senior Life Solutions

As the world’s population of seniors grows around you, so will the number of people living with a mental disorder. According to the World Health Organization, one in six people in the world will be aged 60 years or older by 2030. Due to lonliness, social isolation and other factors that come with aging, approximately 14 percent of these adults live with a mental disorder. Senior Life Solutions Program Manager Jennalee Lundquist says things like retirement, moving, deaths of loved ones, physical limitations, and the loss of independence are all factors that could lead to seniors developing mental health issues.
May is Mental Health Month with Door County Public Health's Shauna Blackledge

Your mental health is becoming a growing concern at the Door County Public Health Department. According to the Centers for Disease and Control, an estimated one-in-five Americans live with a mental health illness with anxiety and depression the most common condition they face. That includes one-in-seven American children with a diagnosed, mental health condition. According to the Door County Community Health Improvement Plan, mental health was the top concern among residents. Complicating the issue is that there are not enough resources to give people the health they need. There is one mental health provider for every 780 residents, far worse the state and national average. Door County Public Health’s Shauna Blackledge says they have been active working with other organizations to do what it can to address mental health in the community.

Dr. Young is from Kansas City, KS and graduated from Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his residency at John Peter Smith Health Network in Fort Worth, TX. Dr. Young has over 20 years of orthopedic surgery experience and comes to Sturgeon Bay after many years in the Fox Valley. In his free time he enjoys biking, hiking, golfing and playing chess.
