The new greenhouse at the Sturgeon Bay High School will be hosting a public open house this coming Wednesday. The greenhouse was built through donations by the community and has been utilized by students the past five months, according to Food Service Director Jenny Spude. Formerly called the “Waseda Farms Growing and Learning Lab”, the greenhouse has been used by students for growing a bounty of vegetables in the sustainable living class offered at Sturgeon Bay High School. Spude says the students really take pride in knowing the foods they grow are showcased on the school’s lunch line.
Spude says the organic aspect of growing fresh foods is both environmentally and fiscally beneficial to the school district. The Sturgeon Bay High School greenhouse open house will be held from 3:30 until 6 on Wednesday afternoon.
